Things to Start Doing In 2019

As the new year approaches, I realize I am still letting past habits and mistakes hold me back. What are some changes you guys want to make this new year? I know it's a bit cliche but I think it's important to set yearly goals for yourself. I always reflect on the past year and think about some things I want to do differently. Here I compiled a list of things that I need to start doing in 2019.

Stop making excuses
Do the phrases "I couldn't do it I was too tired." or "I was too busy and I didn't have time." sound familiar to you? I've been known to use these pretty often to make myself feel better about missing out on important assignments or events. The truth is I didn't prioritize my work, or I was too busy moping around and taking naps in the middle of the day. One thing I want to do is to learn to take responsibility for myself and not make excuses for my actions.
Keep your promises
I want to be a person who does what they say they are going to do. Someone dependable and trustworthy. This year I want to get into the habit of keeping promises
Take steps toward your goals
&
Plan ahead and follow through
Both of these, kind of go hand-in-hand. Saying you have a goal is one thing but if you don't take action or give yourself a plan to reach that goal then it's just a bunch of words. Giving yourself a goal backed by a step-by-step plan is SO much easier. Break it down into small things that you can do to reach your goal.
Give yourself a schedule and stick to it
I buy cute planners I use them for a couple weeks and then they end up lost in a pile of mess on my desk somewhere. I've learned I'm just not the type for a cute notebook, BUT planning and having a schedule is essential to an organized lifestyle. So if you think you're not the type for a planner then try a whiteboard. You can use it to keep up with all your important tasks. Or you can be like me and download a planner app.
Practice positivity and optimism
This is actually something I have been actively working on this year, but there is a lot of room for improvement. More times than not I let my negative thoughts get the best of me. Having that kind of attitude towards life makes it difficult for me to get anything done. I realized when something is coming up I start to think about all the things that could go wrong and in my daily life, I tend to only focus on the negative aspects of my day. I'm working on thinking about the positive.
Stop worrying about what others think
Being afraid to make a fool of myself has kept me from doing so many things throughout my life. It keeps me from pursuing my passions, connecting with my peers, participating in class and so much more I can't even think of. This might be one of the biggest things holding me back. In 2019 I want to stop worrying about what people will think of me and focus more on making myself happy.
Pay attention to your mental health
Last but definitely not least PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR MENTAL HEALTH. This is so so so important to have a quality healthy life. You should never ignore your own well being and try to make sure that you are doing your best to take care of yourself.
How about you? What are some things you want to achieve in the new year? Try to give yourself some short or long-term goals and write down a plan on how you're going to reach them.
Peace,
Ana
